Chelsea are ready to make an approach for Sebastian Hoeness to replace Mauricio Pochettino, but the Stuttgart man is not their favourite choice.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are considering a move for Sebastian Hoeness to replace Mauricio Pochettino. The 42-year-old German had a successful 2023/24 season in the Bundesliga, guiding VfB Stuttgart to a second-place finish. But he is not the favourite to land at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea to target Sebastian Hoeness?
Chelsea made a big decision on Tuesday to dispense with Mauricio Pochettino despite the Argentine’s strong finish to the season that guided the Blues to a sixth-place finish. The suggestions coming out of the club are that they had targeted at least fourth place after another round of heavy spending, and the Argentine fell short of his objectives.
With the Pochettino now gone, Chelsea are in the market for a new manager, the fifth under Todd Boehly. Some options include Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness. The latter has gained much traction over the last 12 hours, although there are doubts whether he will make the move.
After a successful season in the Bundesliga, the 42-year-old German has naturally been considered by some big clubs. Chelsea are looking for a coach with a strong and dynamic profile, and Hoeness certainly fits the bill. However, with the manager signing a new deal with the club, there are doubts about Chelsea prising him away or even Stuttgart letting him leave.
Hoeness might still become an option, but Chelsea are unlikely to keep him as their favourite choice ahead of the summer. There are more names, and there are doubts whether their other target, McKenna, might take up the position after two memorable seasons with Ipswich, leading them towards back-to-back promotions in that period.
Will Thomas Tuchel return to Chelsea?
Thomas Tuchel has re-emerged on Chelsea’s radar, and the club might consider bringing the German back into the club. Whether the former Bayern Munich man wants Siucha to move remains the question, but for now, there are mixed messages.
Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca is also a target, and as things rumble on, Chelsea will be linked with more and more names. The club will eventually decide on Pochettino’s replacement, although it will be interesting to watch until then as more and more names get linked.
