Newcastle United in pole position to appoint Maurizio Sarri

Newcastle United are reportedly the front runners for Maurizio Sarri should they part ways with Eddie Howe ahead of the summer.

According to  Tutto Mercato Web, Newcastle United are in pole position to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their next manager. The Magpies are contemplating parting ways with Eddie Howe should the club end up in a bad position when the season ends, with the 65-year-old former Chelsea manager now free to take a new role elsewhere.

Newcastle United in pole position for Maurizio Sarri

Maurizio Sarri had a productive few years with Lazio, although many problems on and off the pitch resulted in the 65-year-old former Chelsea manager leaving the club in March. He is now free to take up a new role elsewhere, attracting the interest of many clubs from Italy and, surprisingly, England.

Sarri is already mulling over approaches from Newcastle United and West Ham, while there are rumours of a return to Juventus. However, the 65-year-old former Chelsea manager may consider moving back to England, where he spent only a solitary season with Chelsea and lifted the Europa League trophy.

Sarri might want another shot in England and has been reportedly impressed by the plans laid out by the Arab owners. Hence, Newcastle United are considered primary suitors for the Italian manager and could make their move if they are to part ways with Eddie Howe in the summer.

They have not decided anything about Howe’s immediate future, but things could change. Sarri is free to take up a new job and would sit tight to find out what Newcastle’s plans are with him. Things could rapidly change in football, with the 65-year-old former Chelsea manager certainly open to returning for a new role in England.

Will Newcastle United sack Howe?

Newcastle United have had a tricky season with injuries, European football and the pressures of finishing again in the top four. They have had a dismal campaign compared to the previous one, but things are looking up for the Magpies and Howe.

Back in March, the owners decided to stick with Howe, and they might re-evaluate his position when the summer comes. The Magpies are primed to qualify for European football when the campaign ends, although there’s a chance they pip Manchester United for the final Europa League place.
