Manchester United working to replace Erik ten Hag

The “writing is on the wall” for Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United future, as INEOS is working to replace the Dutchman.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United could part ways with Erik ten Hag and the “writing is on the wall” after some of his recent performances. INEOS are reporteldy exploring names in the market, and should they find the right candidate, there will be no time wasted in dispensing off with the Dutchman.

Erik Ten Hag to face Manchester United sack?

Manchester United is in danger of losing out on a top-four place, with Tottenham and Aston Villa looking like the primary contenders for that coveted final Champions League spot. If Villa wins over Chelsea, they will have a 15-point gap over Erik Ten Hag’s side, who does have a game in hand over Unai Emery’s side.

Closing that gap with four games to go will be too much to expect, and hence, Manchester United can consider themselves out of that particular race. The Red Devils can still finish the season with silverware as they are in the FA Cup Final when they face Manchester City in Wembley.

Even if Ten Hag manages an unlikely triumph over their bitter rivals in that Final, INEOS might decide to dispense off with the Dutchman in the summer. Ten Hag’s performances have been dismal over the last many weeks and the season, barring a few instances.

The team may have seen heavy investment, but they are far from competing for the Premier League title with the likes of Manchester City or Arsenal. Some terrible displays against the likes of Coventry and now against Burnley have put the “writing is on the wall” for the Dutchman’s future, as Manchester United could sack their manager and replace him with someone more reliable.

Who are the replacement options?

Many names have been mentioned in the media, with Thomas Tuchel the latest target for Manchester United to replace Ten Hag. Ruben Amorim could also become a target, as the Red Devils are tracking his situation after he failed to land the Liverpool job and probably moved away from links to West Ham.

Zinedine Zidane seems open to the move, but there are some reservations about the triple-Champions League-winning former Real Madrid boss. More names could emerge, and Manchester United will save time in sacking Ten Hag should they find the perfect candidate to take the team forward.
