Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane will prefer taking the Manchester United job over Bayern Munich.

According to a report by L’Équipe, Zinedine Zidane is looking to make a return to football. The 51-year-old French manager hasn’t been in action since the summer of 2021 but he could return ahead of next season. Bayern Munich are the ones pushing hard for his signatures but he would prefer a move to Manchester United.

Zidane had an exceptional career as a player and he has already done wonders as a manager for Real Madrid. He has had two different stints as the manager of Los Blancos and has won numerous titles during his time at the club.

The 51-year-old guided them to the famous Champions League three-peat during his first stint at the club. He might not have won the UCL in the second stint but he did lead them to the league title.

He parted ways with Madrid in the summer of 2021 and has been out of action ever since. Zidane wanted to manage the French national team but with Didier Deschamps’ contract extended until the summer of 2026, he is looking to return to club football.

Bayern keen on appointing Zidane as their manager

Bayern Munich are the ones keen on his signatures. The German giants will part ways with Thomas Tuchel in the summer after a disappointing season. They have been on the lookout for a new manager for a while now and Zidane seems to be quite high on their wishlist.

The German club are already in talks to appoint him as their new boss and the deal is close as per the report. While the former French midfielder respects the opportunity that Bayern will provide, the German language and life in Bavaria are major obstacles to a potential deal.

Zidane will prefer a move to Manchester United

The report states that the French international has a close eye on the situation at Manchester United. He would prefer joining the English club over Bayern. While he isn’t fluent in English either, he has a better understanding of the language and would prefer living in Manchester.

Meanwhile, United’s new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe seems interested in having Zidane as their next boss. They are considering parting ways with Erik ten Hag in the summer and have been looking for potential replacements.

The French manager is a top target for the Red Devils. If they do part ways with the Dutch manager, it won’t be a surprise to see them go all out for the former Real Madrid manager. However, Bayern are still working on his appointment and will look to ensure they can land him at the club.
