Gian Piero Gasperini is not in contention to take over from Jurgen Klopp as the new Liverpool boss ahead of next season.
According to a report by HITC, Liverpool are on the lookout for their next boss with Jurgen Klopp stepping down at the end of the season. The Reds have been linked with the Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini. But, in reality, the Merseyside club have no intentions of appointing him as their next boss.
The 66-year-old has been doing wonders in Italian football. He took charge of Atalanta in the summer of 2016 and has transformed them in some fashion. They have gone from strength to strength under him and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Gasperini was the man behind Liverpool’s demolition at Anfield last week. The Reds hosted Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash. While Liverpool were the favourites, Atalanta ended up smashing them 3-0 on the night.
That tactical masterclass might be one of the reasons why he has been linked with the Liverpool job. Gasperini was asked about the links ahead of the second leg. While he was happy to be linked with the Reds his focus was completely on the task at hand.
Liverpool not interested in Gasperini, they want Amorim
Despite multiple reports suggesting that the Merseyside club are looking at the Italian tactician as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp, in reality, they haven’t even thought about him. He is not in contention to be the next Liverpool manager.
Since Klopp announced the decision to part ways with Liverpool, people at the club have been working very hard to figure out who their next boss will be. Xabi Alonso was their top target initially. But, since he has committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen, the Reds have turned their attention towards Ruben Amorim,
The 39-year-old has done wonders at Sporting CP. His track record and his attacking style of play are what make him their priority target for the role. They feel he is an ideal fit for the club and are pushing to sign him as soon as possible.
