Fabrizio Romano has commented on Liverpool’s links with 41-year-old highly-rated Bologna manager Thiago Motta.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, Thiago Motta is not the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds have been scouring the market for a new manager since Jurgen Klopp announced his impending departure from Anfield. However, the Merseyside club will not pursue the 41-year-old highly-rated Bologna manager.
The rise of Thiago Motta, the manager
Thiago Motta has taken Serie A by storm since becoming the Bologna manager in 2022. The Bologna job is his third at the first-team level after taking charge of Genoa and Spezia in short stints. However, his stock has skyrocketed in the last two years at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.
A world-class midfielder in his playing days, the 41-year-old was renowned for his vision and the ability to read the game. Those qualities are visible in his managerial style, with Bologna playing an eye-catching brand of football. However, after finishing a respectable ninth in the Serie A standings last season, rising to fourth this term has been shocking.
The Red and Blues have been tremendous in Serie A while reaching the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. So, it is hardly surprising that Motta has become the talk of the town in the managerial market, with high-profile clubs like Barcelona and Manchester United setting their sights on him. Recent reports have also linked him with Liverpool.
Liverpool interested?
Liverpool will part ways with Jurgen Klopp after the 2023/24 season ends, with the German tactician calling time on his legendary stint at Anfield. Klopp’s departure will leave a gaping hole in the Reds’ first-team setup, considering the impact he has had at the Merseyside club.
Several highly-rated managers have emerged on Liverpool’s radar, including Thiago Motta. However, Fabrizio Romano has quashed suggestions that the 41-year-old highly-rated manager will replace Klopp at Anfield ahead of the 2024/25 season, insisting he has not heard anything about those rumours.
The Reds have other managers on their wishlist, with Ruben Amorim being the front-runner to land the coveted job. However, they are not interested in pursuing Bologna manager Motta in the coming months.
