Liverpool look to be closing in on landing Jurgen Klopp’s successor, as they will meet with the representative of Sporting CP head coach, Ruben Amorim, on Tuesday.
According to Portuguese outlet DESPORTO, Liverpool are set to meet with Ruben Amorim’s agent on Tuesday as the Sporting Lisbon boss edges closer to becoming the club’s new manager.
The Reds are already well into the closing stages of Jurgen Klopp’s reign at Anfield, with the enormously popular German set to bid an emotional farewell once the current season concludes.
Their plan to end his nearly nine-year in charge with the Premier League title were hampered on Sunday as Liverpool could only manage a 2-2 draw at Manchester United, leaving Arsenal a point clear at the summit.
However, with two trophies to fight for, including the Europa League, the Reds will hope to add at least one more trophy to the impressive seven pieces of silverware Klopp has lifted during his hugely-memorable time at Anfield.
Behind the scenes, club owners FSG are still working hard to find the best possible replacement for Klopp as Liverpool manager.
And, with Michael Edwards leading the hunt, this time in a new job as CEO of football, the spotlight has recently shifted to Sporting Lisbon manager Amorim, who has surfaced as a top candidate to take Klopp’s place in the Liverpool hot seat next season after Xabi Alonso confirmed he will not be leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Liverpool close to securing Ruben Amorim as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement
The noise around Ruben Amorim is only growing louder, and the latest claims from Portugal suggest a meeting between Liverpool and Amorim’s agent to negotiate the final terms of his prospective contract is set to take place on Tuesday.
Asked earlier this week about speculation linking him with a move, the 39-year-old head coach refused to commit his future to the Portuguese club, which has only fueled the speculation even further.
It is easy to see why Liverpool are so keen on Amorim. The 39-year-old is regarded as one of the leading young coaches in the game, boasting an incredible 70.7% win record with Sporting Lisbon since taking charge back in March 2020.
The Portuguese outfit are riding high at the top of the table this season, and Amorim recently ended their long wait for a top-flight trophy.
Amorim’s release clause has been ever-changing since news broke of the Reds’ interest; it has been reported to be as high as £25 million and as low as £8.6 million.
What is clear is that there is seemingly room for negotiation, as echoed further by the above report on the Portuguese manager’s contract, which doesn’t expire until 2026.
It is said that Amorim’s release clause is worth €30 million for clubs in Portugal and €20 million for those abroad, which is where Liverpool would come in.
Since we knew Klopp was leaving I stated their is only 2 managers I would want at the minute, Amorim is one and Naglesmann was the other… if we get Amorim I for one will be over the moon…
Obviously sad to see Klopp leave but if Amorim can give Liverpool the same winking rate % or very close, he’d do better than Klopp has with his 61.9% win rate
