According to a report by TEAMtalk, Manchester United want to complete the appointment of Dan Ashworth before the start of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have been involved in talks with Newcastle United over compensation, and they are confident of striking a deal in the near future.

Manchester United’s new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have full control over Manchester United’s sporting decisions following their purchase of a minority stake in the club. They are focused on bringing the club back to the top and are looking to make major changes on and off the pitch to achieve their goals.

They are looking to make major appointments in key roles at the club. Omar Berrada will be the new CEO of the Red Devils, while they are working on appointing Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director and are also pushing to land Southampton’s chief Jason Wilcox as their new technical director.

Manchester United were in talks with Ashworth at the start of the year, and they did manage to convince him about the project. He made his desire to leave Newcastle known to the people at the club and following it, he was placed on a gardening leave by the club.

In February, the Red Devils made an official approach to sign him from the Tyneside club. The two clubs were involved in talks regarding the compensation. Newcastle Uinted demanded a substantial fee of around £20 million to let Ashworth join United immediately.

Manchester United were in no mood to fork out that big a fee, and talks reached a standstill. However, there seems to be a major development in the story as United are confident of reaching an agreement with the Magpies and appointing Ashworth as their new technical director before the start of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are optimistic that they will strike a deal with Newcastle worth around £10 million to land Ashworth at the club. He is seen as a key appointment by the new part owners given the kind of track record he has. They feel he can play a big role in transforming them, and the 53-year-old is expected to have overall control of football operations at the club.
