Manchester United reportedly want to prise Carlo Ancelotti away from Real Madrid, but a summer move is unrealistic.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Carlo Ancelotti is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a manager heading into the summer amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Erik ten Hag. But a move for the Real Madrid boss is unrealistic after the Italian tactician signed a new contract with Los Blancos.
Carlo Ancelotti has been among the best managers in the world for nearly three decades. A midfielder during his time as a footballer, he represented well-known Italian clubs like AS Roma and AC Milan while turning out 26 times for Italy. He entered the coaching sphere in 1992 and has not looked back since then.
The 64-year-old has enjoyed successful stints with high-profile clubs like AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid. He has had two stints with Los Blancos, with the latest kick-starting in 2021 after his surprise spell with Everton abruptly ended. And Ancelotti has enjoyed an unforgettable second coming at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Italian tactician guided Real Madrid to a UEFA Champions League and La Liga double in his first season back. The Merengues have won three other trophies under Ancelotti, with a few on the way this term. So, the experienced manager’s stock has skyrocketed again after a few seasons of mediocrity.
Hence, it is hardly surprising that he has emerged as a top target for Manchester United heading into the summer. Uncertainties over Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford have mounted due to a horrendous 2023/24 campaign thus far. While the win over Liverpool in the FA Cup eased the pressure on the Dutchman, he is not out of the woods yet.
So, it behoves Manchester United to scour the market for a manager, with Carlo Ancelotti emerging as a target. But the report suggests that the Real Madrid boss is an unrealistic option for the Red Devils. Instead, Thomas Frank is moving to the top of Manchester United’s wishlist.
The Brentford manager has been on Manchester United’s radar for a few weeks. And with a move for Ancelotti unlikely, it will not be surprising to see Frank becoming the top target for Manchester United to replace Erik ten Hag this summer.
