Barcelona and Liverpool target Roberto De Zerbi is leading the race to be the next Manchester United manager.

According to a report by Football Insider, Roberto De Zerdi could be the next Manchester United manager if they decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.

The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a new boss and Graham Potter is one of their targets but the Brighton boss has leapfrogged the former Chelsea manager in the race.

Erik ten Hag had a great start to life at Old Trafford. But, his second season hasn’t been that great as United have struggled in all competitions. His job has been under scrutiny ever since the new ownership took charge.

While he did buy some time thanks to the exceptional win over Liverpool in the FA Cup, people at United do not see him as a long-term option and could part ways with him after the end of the season.

De Zerbi is the preferred choice for the United job

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have been on the lookout for a new boss for a while now. Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter who has been out of action since being sacked by the Blues last April is one of the names on their radar. He is highly admired by the people at Manchester United.

Potter was quite high on their wishlist but it seems Brighton’s current boss Roberto De Zerdi has overtaken him in the race and is now the preferred choice for the role. He has done wonders for the Seagulls since taking charge in 2022.

The Italian managed helped them qualify for European competition for the first time in their history. His style of play and the manner in which he has brought the best out of their youngsters are major reasons why United want him to take charge.

United to face competition from Liverpool & Barcelona

While he is leading the race for the United job, Barcelona and Liverpool are also keen on having him in their ranks. Xavi and Jurgen Klopp will both leave their respective clubs at the end of the season.

Both European giants are on the lookout for a new boss and they have their eyes set on De Zerbi who has done a great job at Brighton. With Liverpool and Barcelona pushing for his signatures, United will not find it easy to sign him if they do end up sacking Erik ten Hag.
