Brighton & Hove Albion have significant fears about Robert De Zerbi leaving the club amid the Italian’s growing frustrations.
According to The Times, Brighton seriously fears an immature exit for Roberto De Zerbi in the summer, with many clubs linked with the Italian. Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona are all keen on the 44-year-old, who has reservations about the Seagulls following an under-par January window.
Brighton fears Roberto De Zerbi’s exit
Brighton have had a successful stint on the pitch under the management of Roberto De Zerbi in the last few days. The Italian gaffer has expressed his frustrations over the club’s business in the January window, as he might have wanted more signings to bring depth to his squad, who are competing on multiple fronts.
Despite their dismal form in the league, Brighton could have made a dash for the Europa League title had they had a better squad. Their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Roma last week more or less ends their European dream, and in the league, they are struggling for relevance, with wins coming at a premium.
Brighton are aware of the growing interest in the Italian, and were prepared to offer him a new contract to ward of suitors. Instead, they now fear an exit for De Zerbi, who might take his frustrations to another notch, which the club feels could result in his immature exit in the summer.
As per a report, taking De Zerbi out of Brighton would cost around £12 million in compensation fees, which may be favourable to some of his high-profile suitors. Any decision from the 44-year-old Italian will happen based on the club’s plans for the summer, where he would want significant improvements and incoming business of players that improve the squad drastically.
Which clubs are chasing De Zerbi?
De Zerbi’s explosive start to life in England has attracted many top-level clubs, including Liverpool, who have been linked with many names since Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to leave. Barcleona are also mentioned as a suitor following Xavi Hernandez’ desire to leave, while Chelsea are also mentioned.
Chelsea are keen on De Zerbi and to bring in an alternative to Mauricio Pochettino who has not improved this expensively assembled young squad. The 44-year-old Italian’s work with young stars at Brighton may be the biggest reason the Blues might prefer this particular name, with the former Shakhtar boss in danger of leaving the Seagulls in the summer.
