Sir Alex Ferguson wants Manchester United to appoint 49-year-old Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman.
According to a report by Football Insider, Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge admirer of Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman, and he wants Manchester United to appoint him as their new head of recruitment. The Manchester United legend feels the Eagles’ chief could do wonders for the club under the new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Major changes taking place at Manchester United
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have full control over Manchester United’s sporting decisions having completed their minority takeover. They have already started making major changes in the background as they look to revive the club. And, bringing in Freedman could be another sensational move by the Red Devils.
They have already appointed former Manchester City chief Omar Berrada as their new CEO and are now on the verge of completing the appointment of Dan Ashworth, who will take charge as their new Sporting Director.
Ashworth is currently on gardening leave after having agreed to make a move to Old Trafford from Newcastle United. He is all set to take full charge of their transfers once the two clubs agree on compensation to end his gardening leave.
Sir Alex Ferguson pushing for Dougie Freedman
Ferguson wants Freedman to join Ashworth’s team as head of recruitment as he believes the duo could help them bring back the glory days. He has asked Manchester United to appoint him, and they have already made an approach to Ferguon’s former neighbour.
The 49-year-old took charge as Crystal Palace’s sporting director in the summer of 2017. He has done an exceptional job for them over the years. Freedman was the one responsible for their best signings in the recent past, as he was the one who brought Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi to the club.
All three are future stars, and they are expected to fetch huge fees if they are to be sold. He could help Ashworth bring such incredible talents to Old Trafford, which is why Ferguson is pushing for his appointment.
The new minority ownership at Manchester United have already taken quite a few positive steps, and it won’t be a big surprise if they go in and sign him from Crystal Palace ahead of next season.
