Liverpool are looking to bring in a sporting director at the end of the season, with Jorg Schmadtke following Jurgen Klopp out of the club.
According to a report from Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Florent Ghisolfi. They have been linked with former director Michael Edwards as well, but he has not given his approval to a return to the club so far.
It seems that Liverpool are now lining up potential alternatives, and they are keen on the 39-year-old OGC Nice transfer expert. Liverpool are still eager to convince Edwards to return to the club, and the 44-year-old has already rejected an initial proposal from the Premier League giants.
Edwards wants a unique role and total control to return to Liverpool, and he wants to be given total control of footballing operations at the club. Ben Jacobs has now revealed that Florent Ghisolfi is an alternative for Liverpool, and it will be interesting to see if they can persuade him to join the club. The 39-year-old has done an impressive job at Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, and he could prove to be a quality appointment for the Reds as well.
“Option number one is Michael Edwards, and I think Liverpool want an answer very quickly. They would have to, of course, make a formal offer. But I think, by early or mid-March, they will know the answer on the Edwards front. That is approach number one and, if the answer is yes, it’s up to Edwards.”
“I think Richard Hughes will be among those on their list after Edwards. If Edwards turns the opportunity down, that is when Liverpool may look at Nice sporting director Florent Ghisolfi and Frederic Massara, who was most recently at AC Milan.”
The opportunity to work at one of the biggest clubs in the world will be a tempting proposition for the 39-year-old, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool decide to approach Ghisolfi.
Florent Ghisolfi could help land Nice duo
Bringing him to the club might help Liverpool sign quality players like Jean-Clair Todibo and Khephren Thuram from the Ligue 1 outfit as well. Both players have been linked with Liverpool in recent months. The Reds will need to bring in a quality central midfielder, and a central defender in the summer.
Ideally, Liverpool will hope to convince Edwards to join the club. He knows Liverpool well and he has a proven track record in the Premier League. He helped Jurgen Klopp build a formidable squad at Anfield, which saw Liverpool win several trophies since 2015.
