Barcelona are interested in approaching Mikel Arteta for their vacant managerial role, although any move will prove unsuccessful.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona could make an approach for Mikel Arteta to replace Xavi Hernandez in the summer. The Catalans have eyed the Spaniard for some time now, although it will be a huge task to take him out of Arsenal, considering his current trajectory in north London.
Barcelona want Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta’s links to Barcelona are nothing new, as there have been rumours the club are interested in the Arsenal manager. The Spaniard has been one of the first names to emerge in the Spanish media should there be speculation surrounding Xavi Hernandez in the past.
With Xavi now set to leave Barcelona in the summer, the Catalans will be expected to sign a high-profile manager as his replacement, with several options already discussed in the media, including Marcelo Gallardo and Ruben Amorim.
Hansi Flick also remains a target, although should Arteta become available, Joan Laporta might favour a move for the Gunners boss over other candidates. However, signing the Spaniard out of north London may prove a futile effort on Barcelona’s part, as he’s currently untouchable at Arsenal.
Arteta has helped Arsenal mount a title challenge in back-to-back seasons and will want to continue his stay at the club. Barcelona knows this fact and may continue to harbour hopes of finding a gap to exploit, something Arsenal fans hope will never happen.
Arteta committed to Arsenal
As things stand, Arteta would like to continue his journey with Arsenal, having played a massive role in the club’s revival over the past few seasons. The Spaniard has taken the side to new levels as the Gunners are now considered one of the strongest contenders for the Premier League and Champions League.
Arteta’s current deal ends in 2025, although the report and others suggest Arsenal are planning on opening talks with their manager soon over a new deal. As things stand, the Spaniard will sign the new contract and continue working with the north Londoners.
