Liverpool have added Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann to their list of alternatives to Xabi Alonso but may have to wait until the Euros.

According to Daily Telegraph, Liverpool are already considering alternatives to top managerial target Xabi Alonso and have added Julian Nagelsmann to their list. The German manager’s contract expires after the Euros, which could make him an exciting choice.

Julian Nagelsmann lands on Liverpool’s managerial wishlist

Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure will have Liverpool thinking big about their next appointment in the dugout. Since the German announced his intention to depart, the media has been busy naming names for the potential successor, as early reports brought a lot of options to the fore.

Xabi Alonso remains their priority target, with Liverpool ready to make their move. Bayern Munich are also interested in the Spaniard, with a big battle to secure the former midfielder set to commence once the season finishes. He is focused on winning the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and will only decide his future after the campaign.

Alonso might also stay put at Bayer Leverkusen by rejecting the overtures of Liverpool and Bayern, as he might eye Real Madrid job becomes available. Hence, the Reds are concerned over his potential availability and have added Julian Nagelsmann to their list of alternatives to the Spaniard.

Nagelsmann remains one of the brightest young coaches, and the 36-year-old Bundesliga winner’s current deal with the German national team ends after the Euros. Hence, should Liverpool make their move for him, they might have to wait until the end of the continental competition before signing him for the club.

Liverpool’s other alternatives to Alonso

Being such a big club, Liverpool will not want to have only one alternative to top target Alonso. There are some of the early links to different managers, including Ange Postcoglou and Ruben Amorim, to consider, with the latter also a target for the Merseysiders should they fail to land the Leverkusen man. They are also keen on Hansi Flick as an option, who remains out of a job since leaving Germany.

Regarding the managerial ladder, Amorim might stand low in the pecking order, as Liverpool might see someone like Nagelsmann or Postecoglou as an upgrade to the Sporting CP boss. For now, they will continue to target Alonso as their leading man to replace Klopp and might then see the best possible alternative.
