Manchester United will not fork out £20million to land Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth at the club.
According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United have made a big decision regarding their pursuit of Dan Ashworth. The Newcastle United sporting director has made quite a name for himself and the Red Devils’ new minority owners feel he is the right man to take them forward but they are not willing to pay a premium for his services.
Ashworth has done wonders at Brighton as well as Newcastle. He joined the Magpies in the summer of 2022 and went on to play a pivotal role in the majority of their marquee signings as the club went from a relegation battle to Champions League football.
Beginning of a new era at United
His impressive work caught the eyes of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the new minority owners of United. They might only have minority ownership but with the FA giving their takeover a green light, they now have control over the sporting decisions of the club.
Ratcliffe and his team are looking to change the entire structure of the club and make new appointments in key roles. They want to bring in people who can help make United the best team for the development of young players.
They have already succeeded in bringing former City Group chief Omar Berrada to the club. He will take charge as the CEO of the club in the near era and they are now desperate to have Ashworth at Old Trafford.
Red Devils keen on Ashworth
The Red Devils have been in talks with the Magpies’ sporting director for a while now. They have convinced him about their project and are willing to give him a lot of power in crucial decision making something he doesn’t have at Newcastle as per reports.
While Ashworth has agreed to the move and has informed the Tyneside club about his decision, his contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2026 and they are not letting him leave for nothing. Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has confirmed the fact that they are on the lookout for a new sporting director.
They are looking to make £20 million from the departure of Ashworth. United are aware of the asking price but they have no intentions of paying that big a fee. Both clubs are still in talks as they look to reach a common ground in the near future.
