Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has been linked with succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool after his successful start to life in north London, but the Australian tactician is “really happy” at Hotspur Way.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano (via GIVEMESPORT), Tottenham Hotspur have no fears about Ange Postecoglou departing the club prematurely this summer amid strong Liverpool links.
Romano told GMS: “I’m hearing that Postecoglou is really happy at Tottenham. It’s important to clarify that. They are working on a project together. All the signings they made were decided with Ange Postecoglou. That’s the situation around him.
“I think it is still early, so nothing will be decided in the next days. It will take time. Liverpool want to decide who is going to be the new sporting director before understanding who is going to be the new manager.”
The Reds were rocked on Friday when Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, bringing an end to a legendary spell at the club. The news that came from nowhere, even though the German had informed those high up of his decision back in November, has left supporters stunned.
The 56-year-old cited a growing lack of energy as a key reason for deciding to move on this summer, at which point he will be approaching nine years in the role. It has been a period of huge success for Liverpool, including Champions League and Premier League triumphs, and Klopp will be leaving as one of the most iconic figures in Reds history.
The most pressing concern for Liverpool fans is who will replace the legendary manager at Anfield. Former midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has quickly emerged as the favourite. The 42-year-old Spaniard is working wonders at Bayer Leverkusen, is adept at developing players, and operate under tight finances.
Several other names have entered the frame too, with the likes of Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim and Brentford’s Thomas Frank mentioned. Postecoglou is among the names being touted as the next Liverpool manager after gaining plenty of plaudits for his work since arriving at the Hotspur Way.
Postecoglou has impressed everyone at Spurs since joining from Celtic last summer. The Australian has transformed the team’s style of play while leading them to fifth spot in the Premier League, three points behind second-placed Manchester City, despite losing talisman Harry Kane on the first day of the season and dealing with a full-blown injury crisis.
As someone who plays a high-pressing, gung-ho style of football and has immediately won over fans and players, the attraction is pretty evident. Not to mention, the Aussie boss has already admitted he was a Liverpool fan as a child, which has fueled the speculation even further.
However, as per Romano, Postecoglou is totally focused on the task at hand in the Tottenham hot seat, and after being heavily backed in the transfer market, the expectation is that he will remain in charge for the foreseeable future.
