Manchester United are looking to acquire the services of 49-year-old Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman.
According to a report by Daily Star, Manchester United are interested in the services of Dougie Freedman. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is closing on acquiring a 25% stake in the club, and his arrival could result in numerous changes. The biggest change could be the appointment of Freedman as their new sporting director.
The 49-year-old started off his managerial career at Crystal Palace’s youth academy. He went from strength to strength and became the first team manager eventually. Post that, he was also in charge of Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.
In 2017, he decided to return to Crystal Palace, this time as their sporting director. Freedman has done some exceptional business since taking charge at the South London club. His reputation has soared in recent times thanks to his three incredible signings of Marc Guehi (a target for Manchester United), Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. All three have managed to establish themselves as first-team regulars.
His exceptional work has not gone unnoticed, and Manchester United are one of the big clubs keen on having him as their new sporting director. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to soon complete the purchase of a 25% stake in the club and post that, he will be able to make major changes at United.
Ratcliffe and his team want to bring an end to the Red Devils’ chaotic transfer policy. Manchester United have spent around a billion pounds in the last three years on transfers. But they have not been able to produce results on the pitch. As a result, the new minority owners are expected to make numerous changes in their management.
They will most likely part ways with technical director John Murtough and football director Darren Fletcher. On top of that, they will look to bring Freedman to the club from Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, Manchester United have already landed Ben Clarke to add to their backroom staff.
Ratcliffe is a huge admirer of the 49-year-old and Sir David Brailsford, the former Team GB cycling superstar, who is assisting the overhaul of Manchester United’s transfer and scouting department, is also in favour of the appointment of the Palace sporting director.
