Sir Jim Ratcliffe could replace Erik ten Hag with Graham Potter at Manchester United once Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrives at the club.

Graham Potter might have seen his big job at Chelsea end prematurely, but he remains in contention for another top job as the Manchester United hot seat might be available should Sir Jim Ratcliffe take charge at Old Trafford. That is according to a report by The Sun.

The British billionaire could be the next decision-maker at Old Trafford if everything goes his way. And should that happen, Erik ten Hag could find himself with a target on his back.

The Dutchman has endured a frustrating season so far with the Red Devils suffering their worst league start since 1989 after losing four of their first seven games. They might have sneaked wins over Brentford and Sheffield United of late. But ten Hag’s men have been far from convincing.

Sir Ratcliffe has a good opinion of ten Hag but has claimed in the past that results might as well decide whether the Dutchman will continue at the Theatre of Dreams. If The Sun is to be believed, Ratcliffe and Co. already have a replacement lined up.

Sir Ratcliffe’s man Friday, Sir Dave Brailsford is likely to be the football face of the takeover and is a fan of Potter. More so, he also tried to get the 48-year-old to take the job at OGC Nice, the Ligue 1 club owned by INEOS.

Potter was a highly sought-after manager thanks to the brilliant job he did at Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the move to Chelsea did not work out as expected, and he was let go after mere months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

He is also being head-hunted by Italian champions SSC Napoli as Rudi Garcia continues to struggle. It remains to be seen if Potter will take up the job in Naples or wait and gamble on becoming the next Manchester United manager.

Ten Hag has seen his side win two games on the trot now against Brentford and Sheffield United. They now face a do-or-die clash against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League midweek.

With Sir Ratcliffe expected to complete formalities soon, the Manchester United boss cannot afford to approach any negotiations on his future from a position of weakness. Succeeding at a big club is not for everyone, and it remains to be seen if Potter will get a chance at redemption. Whether that will be at Old Trafford or elsewhere is the question.
