Manchester United could appoint Paul Mitchell as sporting director under Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United are in talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe to acquire a minority stake, and Paul Mitchell could be their sporting director.

A report from The Athletic has claimed that there could be hierarchical changes if Sir Jim Ratcliffe manages to acquire a 25% stake in the Premier League club. Manchester United could look to bring in former Tottenham transfer guru Paul Mitchell as the club’s next sporting director.

Manchester United could definitely use a quality sporting director right now, and the arrival of Mitchell could sort out their transfer problems. The same report also suggests that Michael Edwards and Julian Ward are on Ratcliffe’s radar.

The Red Devils have spent substantial amounts of money on players in recent season. But they have not been able to get the best out of those signings. Most of their big-money signings have flopped, and the Red Devils have not been able to compete for major trophies on a consistent basis.

Manchester United recently spent around £150 million on Jadon Sancho and Antony. Both wingers have been largely underwhelming, and the Premier League side have had no return on their investment so far.

Mitchell has done an impressive job at Tottenham in the past, and he could prove to be an interesting acquisition. He helped Mauricio Pochettino sign players like Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Toby Alderweireld.

He has had impressive spells at clubs like RB Leipzig as well, where he signed players like Matheus Cunha and Nordi Mukiele. There is no doubt that he could do an impressive job at Manchester United as well. He will help them sign quality players who can help transform the side into genuine title contenders in the coming seasons.

It will be interesting to see if Mitchell, a Manchester native, is willing to accept a move to Manchester United in the coming months. He was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford back in 2019 as well.

Manchester United have the resources to fight for the major trophies every season. But their poor transfer business has cost them dearly. Mitchell could rectify that mistake and help them reclaim their former glories.
