Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Atletico Madrid executive Andrea Berta.

A report from The Independent has claimed that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on bringing Italian executive Andrea Berta on board from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in order to help with their recruitment.

Manchester United have spent substantial amounts of money on new signings over the years. But they have not been able to put together a squad capable of challenging for major trophies. Most of their signings have failed to deliver, and it seems that they are willing to restructure the hierarchy.

Berta has helped Atletico Madrid sort out their dysfunctional recruitment unit and bring in talented players for reasonable amounts of money. He will be expected to do a similar job at Old Trafford if he joins Manchester United.

The Red Devils have seen big-money signings like Jadon Sancho and Antony struggle to perform in the Premier League, and they will need to use their resources better. Clubs with modest resources have won trophies in recent seasons. So, Manchester United will clearly need to work on their signings if they want to progress as a club.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in a sporting director after the departure of Fabio Paratici. Berta would be an experienced appointment, and he could help them attract the top young talents around the world. Recent reports have also linked Tottenham with transfer gurus like Mateu Alemany.

But interestingly, Atletico Madrid lead the race to appoint Alemany. Apparently, Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the Italian as well, and it remains to be seen whether the two Premier League clubs can fend off the competition from the French outfit.

PSG have considerable resources at their disposal and they could give him the freedom to sign the best players. The opportunity to join the Premier League clubs could be an exciting proposition for Andrea Berta as well. He has been at the Spanish club for a decade and might be keen on a new challenge now.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United have the skeleton of a very good squad, and a few intelligent additions could help them compete for major trophies. It remains to be seen whether Berta is up for the challenge.
