Manchester United are reportedly likely to offer manager Erik ten Hag a bumper new deal worth £12 million per year.

A report from The Sun claims that Manchester United will offer Erik ten Hag a new contract worth £12 million per year after a brilliant debut season at Old Trafford. The new deal will see the Dutchman continue at Old Trafford until the summer of 2028.

Erik ten Hag has improved Manchester United immensely over the last few months, and the Red Devils have already won the League Cup under his management. They are well-placed to secure UEFA Champions League qualification as well.

Manchester United were once labelled as dark horses for the title race before the humiliating defeat to Liverpool. But that shows the scale of improvement at Old Trafford. There is no doubt that Manchester United have a talented squad. And with the right reinforcements, they could be contenders for the Premier League title next season.

Apart from the improvement in results, ten Hag has improved Manchester United’s playing style as well. And the high-intensity attacking football at Old Trafford has impressed the fans. Furthermore, the Dutchman has managed to get the best out of underperforming players like Marcus Rashford.

The England international had a hugely underwhelming 2021/22 campaign, but he has been one of the best players in the league this year. There is no doubt that Manchester United will only get better under the Dutchman in the coming years. So it makes sense to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

Ten Hag has certainly earned the bumper pay rise. And it remains to be seen whether the two parties can iron out the final details and formalise the £12 million-a-year contract soon.

Manchester United need continuity, and they will have to build on the foundations laid this season. Ten Hag has proven himself as a capable manager, and it will be interesting to see if he can take the Red Devils back to the top of English football once again.

As for the Dutchman, he will be delighted with his first season at Old Trafford so far. And there is no reason for him to want to leave the club anytime soon. He is likely to accept the lucrative contract when it is presented and commit his long-term future to the Premier League giants.
