Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been linked with a move for former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique recently managed the Spanish national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But he has been out of a job since December when his departure from the national team setup was announced. A report from The Times claims that Tottenham could look to appoint him as Antonio Conte’s replacement.

The 53-year-old Italian manager will be a free agent in the summer and Tottenham have not been able to agree on a contract extension with him yet. The Londoners are expected to lose him at the end of the season, and Conte has been linked with a return to Italy.

It is worth noting that the Premier League club have the option to trigger a one-year extension in the Italian’s contract. But it seems unlikely that they will force him to stay at the club if he does not wish to commit his long-term future to their cause. Tottenham have been linked with a number of coaches, including former manager Mauricio Pochettino, in recent weeks.

Luis Enrique has done an impressive job at Barcelona in the past, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition as well. So it is hardly surprising that Tottenham are showing an interest in him. The report from The Times claims that Enrique is prepared to return to management soon if the right job is available. And joining Tottenham could be an appealing option for him.

The Tottenham fans are likely to be excited with his free-flowing attacking football if the Spaniard takes over from Antonio Conte at the end of the season. Furthermore, his arrival could get the best out of attacking players like Richarlison, who have struggled under Antonio Conte this season.

Enrique is a proven winner as well and he could prove to be an exciting addition. He has previously won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona. Ideally, Spurs would want to hold on to Conte for as long as possible. But they are powerless to stop the Italian from leaving. Meanwhile, Enrique is open to joining Tottenham.

It will be interesting to see if Enrique’s arrival is enough to convince key players like Harry Kane to sign an extension with the club and continue beyond this season. The England international has been linked with a move to Manchester United. And there have been rumours that he could look to leave the club in order to join a team capable of winning trophies. It will be interesting to see if the Champions League-winning manager joins Tottenham.
