Chelsea manager Graham Potter is under a lot of pressure, and the Blues are already eyeing a potential replacement in Thomas Frank.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are keeping tabs on 49-year-old Brentford manager Thomas Frank as a potential replacement for Graham Potter if the results do not improve soon.
Graham Potter has been backed significantly in the transfer market. But he has failed to get the best out of his squad. Chelsea currently find themselves tenth in the Premier League table. And a club of their stature should have been challenging for the title.
A title race is surely beyond them now, but they will be desperate to push for a top-four finish. Missing out on UEFA Champions League football could be a devastating blow for them financially and in terms of appeal. Chelsea are thus showing interest in several managers, including Luciano Spalletti.
Chelsea cannot hope to attract the best players in the world without Champions League football. And after the massive transfer outlay in the last two windows, they will need the European revenues to boost their coffers. It will be interesting to see if Potter can turn things around in the coming weeks and get Chelsea firing on all cylinders again.
On the other hand, Brentford have excelled under Thomas Frank. And the 49-year-old has certainly proven his pedigree in the Premier League. Brentford are currently ninth in the standings, four points clear of Chelsea, with a game in hand.
The Bees will be hoping to push for European football next season. And it remains to be seen whether they can secure a place in the top six. An opportunity to manage a big club like Chelsea which has won the Premier League and the Champions League recently certainly be an attractive proposition for Thomas Frank.
But it remains to be seen whether the Blues can lure him to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. For now, Potter will surely have until the end of the season to show whether he is capable of turning things around at Stamford Bridge. Club owner Todd Boehly has been quite patient and supportive of the manager so far, but the former Brighton manager is clearly on thin ice now.
