Tottenham are keeping tabs on Mauricio Pochettino as an option to replace Antonio Conte in case the Italian departs.

According to Fichajes, Mauricio Pochettino features highly on Tottenham’s list of potential Antonio Conte replacements. The Italian’s long-term future is cast in doubt amid heavy interest from Juventus. In the scenario of his departure, Spurs would be open to bringing the Argentine tactician to the helm.

Antonio Conte was the name to bring success to Tottenham and end their much-publicised trophy drought. There had been a visible downward curve in performances and overall results after Mauricio Pochettino left the club. But Conte’s arrival allowed the fanbase to get over the toxic time under Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Italian, widely known to win trophies wherever he has managed, gave Tottenham the encouragement to do so during his time.

While Conte’s contract lasts until 2023, the north club reportedly hold an option to extend it by a further year. The club’s board supported Conte’s efforts in the summer transfer window as they went about spending around £150 million.

Despite adhering to all possible conditions, there are question marks over his long-term future. Conte is reportedly stalling on a new contract as he waits on interest from bigger clubs. Juventus are reportedly linked as a possible destination for the Italian tactician.

The Bianconeri could wait to see how Conte’s future pans out. So far, they have publicly maintained trust in Massimiliano Allegri. If they can tempt Conte away in the immediate future, Tottenham might look at replacement options.

There are few names mentioned around; the one that stands out is that of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. After leaving PSG in the summer, the Argentine manager is without a club.

The north Londoners reportedly want someone who could embark on a new project, something the Argentine did when he first took charge. The highlight of his reign includes a title-challenging season and a place in the UEFA Champions League Final.

Whether Pochettino is keen on a return remains to be seen, given how his previous tenure ended. Tottenham could also consider appointing the Argentine to keep hold of stars Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

Additionally, the Tottenham fanbase loved the style of football under the Argentine and would welcome their former manager back with open arms. The club’s priority will be to keep hold of Conte and ensure he signs a new deal. If not, they could put plans to bring in a viable replacement, such as Pochettino.
