Marina Granovskaia set to leave Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly set to part ways with Marina Granovskaia, with Todd Boehly likely to take over.

According to Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are facing the prospect of losing Marina Granovskaia. The sporting director’s departure could become a part of the massive clear-out following the takeover from the Todd Boehly-Clearlake capital consortium.

Granovskaia had been a member of the Chelsea boardroom since 2013. Widely considered as the number two of previous owner Roman Abramovich, she had played a key role in Chelsea’s activity in the market, especially when it came to holding negotiations with clubs and player contracts.

Granovskaia’s influence was critical in helping Chelsea secure the deals for Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic, among many others in recent years.

The 47-year-old was even involved in Chelsea’s negotiations in the market earlier this summer, even after the ouster of Abramovich. But with Todd Boehly coming in, the American business magnate is slowly starting to impose his influence on the club.

Boehly has already offered Thomas Tuchel greater control of the club’s policy in the transfer market. At the same time, the Chelsea owner himself has led the negotiations with Inter Milan over Lukuku’s potential to Giuseppe Meazza.

It has led to question marks over Granovskaia’s future at Stamford Bridge and it appears she is now on the verge of leaving the club as part of the massive overhaul at Chelsea this summer.

The report suggests Todd Boehly is set to take over her role as the club’s main negotiator in the transfer market. The American is also set to replace Bruce Buck as the Chelsea chairman after he announced his exit from the club. The new owners are set to appoint a new sporting director as well, thus completing the change of personnel at Stamford Bridge.

However, with two months still remaining until the new season gets underway, Granovskaia’s exit in the coming days could impact Chelsea’s activity in the market, although it will be equally exciting to see how new owner Boehly operates.
