RB Leipzig are reportedly aiming to hijack Manchester United’s pursuit of Erik ten Hag, who is the favourite to replace Ralf Rangnick in the summer.
A recent report from Daily Telegraph has offered a detailed report on Manchester United’s pursuit of Erik ten Hag. The Ajax manager is the undisputed favourite to become the head coach of Manchester United next season, having held talks earlier in the month.
However, it appears Manchester United may need to speed up their pursuit if they are to sign ten Haag, as RB Leipzig have recently joined the race. The report suggests the Bundesliga giants are keen on hijacking Manchester United’s seal to sign ten Hag and want to incorporate the Dutchman as the head coach in the new season.
RB Leipzig’s interest in Ten Hag is quite surprising as they have done tremendously well under new coach Domenico Tedesco. The former Schalke boss had replaced Jesse Marsch, who is currently the manager of Leeds United, earlier in the new season and has since helped Leipzig establish themselves as one of the best teams in the Bundesliga.
With ten wins in 15 league matches, Leipzig are now in total control of their destiny, emerging as the favourite to finish inside the top four come May.
The report indicates RB Leipzig’s interest in ten Hag dates back to their appointment of Tedesco, meaning the Bundesliga giants are keen on signing the Dutchman in order to shape an era at the club, following a difficult start to the campaign.
Ten Hag has an impressive record at Ajax, helping the club secure two Eredivisie titles while reaching the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. He has received many praises for his tactical ingenuity as well, with the Dutchman also nurturing young players such as Antony, Jurrien Timber and Ryan Gravenberch, among many others.
While Leipzig’s entry in the chase may serve as a warning sign for Manchester United, the Red Devils are still the undisputed favourites to land the Ajax manager. The club have already promised to give the 52-year-old a significant say in the transfer policy and player arrivals while highlighting the role of consultant Ralf Rangnick.
Ten Hag is unlikely to hold out for a big compensation either, as he already owns a fortune due to his family business. But given the personality of Rangnick, it will be interesting to see whether the two can work harmoniously at Manchester United next season.
