Carlo Ancelotti uninterested in leaving Real Madrid for Italy

Carlo Ancelotti reportedly has no interest in leaving Real Madrid to become the new head coach of the Italian national side.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Carlo Ancelotti has no intention of leaving his post as the Real Madrid manager anytime soon. The 62-year-old has recently emerged as a candidate to replace Roberto Mancini as the head coach of the Italian national side following their shocking FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign.

When you think of the all-time legendary managers in football, Carlo Ancelotti will likely be one of the first names to pop up in your head. The Italian tactician is one of the most decorated coaches ever, having been a habitual winner since he crossed over into the managerial world nearly thirty years ago.

The 62-year-old has won 21 major honours in his managerial career, with his two spells with Real Madrid being among the most successful periods of his time as a coach. Ancelotti has won it all as a Real Madrid manager and is on course to guide Los Blancos to returning to the summit of La Liga at the end of the ongoing campaign.

The Italian coach has already overseen the Spanish Super Cup triumph earlier this season, with Real Madrid also in contention to win the UEFA Champions League, although they face a stiff test against Chelsea in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Ancelotti’s success at Real Madrid has caught the attention of the Italian Football Federation.

Italy’s rapid fall from grace has been shocking, as the Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup mere months after triumphing at the UEFA Euro 2020. The inability to book a place at Qatar 2022 has heaped the pressure on Roberto Mancini, who was heralded as a game-changing appointment for Italy not too long ago.

While Mancini has chosen not to speak on his future, it will not be surprising if the Italian Football Federation decides to seek a replacement, with Ancelotti a key target. However, Ancelotti does not wish to leave Real Madrid and could reject Italy for a second time, having also done so in 2014. But the 62-year-old’s hand could be forced by Real Madrid if the Spanish giants end the season weakly.

The Merengues already have several candidates in mind to replace Ancelotti following the shock 4-0 defeat to Barcelona last weekend, with Thomas Tuchel among the managers on their radar. For now, though, Ancelotti does not intend to leave his post at Real Madrid to become the new Italy head coach.
