Transfer News: Newcastle United plotting summer move for Diego Carlos

Newcastle United could part ways with Eddie Howe following what has been a poor start to the season for the club. .

Newcastle United reportedly remain interested in Diego Carlos, and a summer move could be on the cards if they can agree a fee with Sevilla.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle United could go back for Diego Carlos with a fresh bid in the summer. The Magpies failed with multiple offers for the Brazilian, as they were unable to agree on a reasonable fee with Sevilla.

Newcastle United have certainly improved in the short period since the January transfer window ended. The result against Aston Villa was their third consecutive win in the Premier League, with some of the new signings starting to show their worth.

Kieran Trippier has already become an important part of Eddie Howe’s side, while others such as Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, and Dan Burn are beginning to settle down. Avoiding relegation remains their biggest objective at the end of the season, and their current five-game unbeaten run in the league should give them the confidence to stay up.

One of their primary requirements in January was bringing a new centre-back, with several players targeted. Since they failed with multiple offers for top target Sven Botman, Newcastle switched their attention to Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

Despite Carlos agreeing on personal terms with Newcastle, Sevilla stalled on at least two offers from the Premier League side. Their highest bid was worth a reported €40 million, which was still short of the €60 million price tag placed by the La Liga side.

With time running out in the window, Newcastle agreed on a deal for Dan Burn. The Premier League side are expected to retain an interest in one of those two centre-half targets in the summer. Carlos could yet see the Magpies coming back with a solid offer after the season.

They are also heavily tipped to sign Botman next term, although Carlos could now become their priority. The Brazilian has formed an important partnership with Frenchman Jules Kounde, keeping Sevilla firmly in La Liga title race.

It remains to be seen how much Sevilla might demand for Carlos in the summer. While they are expected to lower their initial €60 million asking price for January, they could yet command a significant fee in the summer. The Brazilian could be a solid signing, part of many to come in the window if the Magpies keep their Premier League status.
