Transfer News: Real Madrid eye David Ospina on Bosman deal

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Napoli and Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina on a free transfer in the summer window.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are ready to make a move for Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina in the summer transfer window and secure his services in a Bosman deal.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper joined Napoli in 2018 after spending four years at Arsenal. He has been a reliable option between the sticks for the Partenopei, even though he has had to share playing time with Alex Meret in recent seasons. To date, Ospina has featured 92 times for the Italian giants, keeping 37 clean sheets in the process.

Ospina has been a regular fixture in the side this season, featuring in 20 of the 24 Serie A matches that Napoli have played, helping them to the second spot in the standings. However, his future at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium beyond the current season is uncertain as his contract is set to run out in less than six months.

Alerted by the situation, Real Madrid are planning to make a play for his signing at the end of the season. As things stand, Los Blancos have one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe at their disposal in the form of Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian international has been crucial to the Spanish capital club’s recent success.

And in Andriy Lunin, they have a more than capable backup option. However, the Ukrainian international is unhappy with his lack of involvement in the side. The 22-year-old played just one game last season and has featured just twice this time out. As a result, he is pushing for an exit in the summer, which would leave a void in the goalkeeping department at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In order to address that, Real Madrid are now considering signing Ospina on a free transfer in the summer. A vastly experienced customer, the Colombian international still has plenty left to offer and is more likely to be content playing second fiddle to Courtois at this stage of his career.

Reports last month indicated that the former Arsenal custodian is interested in making the switch to the Bernabeu. With Real Madrid also pushing to sign him now, there is a good chance that a deal is agreed in the summer.
