Championship giants Bournemouth are reportedly interested in sealing a late January move for Liverpool younger Neco Williams.
According to Liverpool Echo, Bournemouth have set their sights on Neco Williams on deadline day. The Championship outfit are keen on sealing a short-term loan deal for the Liverpool defender, as coach Scott Parker looks to bolster his options in the defensive unit before the winter transfer window draws to a close.
Liverpool are believed to be open to offloading Williams on a loan deal in order to help him gain regular minutes during the second half of the campaign. The player himself has cut his break in Dubai short to hold talks with his representatives and consider his options before the transfer market slams to a shut.
A member of the Liverpool youth academy since 2009, Williams has been a part of the club’s senior side since the start of 2020. He had made a solid impression with his performances during the early stages of his professional career.
However, over the past 18 months, the youngster has found it difficult to continue his rapid development. Despite being a key fixture in the Welsh national team, he has struggled with a lack of game-time at Liverpool, notably racking up just three starts since the start of last season.
It appears Jurgen Klopp prefers James Milner as his desired alternative for the undisputed first-choice right-back in Trent Alexander-Arnold. It has greatly restricted Williams’ game-time, and a move away from Anfield, therefore, could prove to be a logical solution, with Bournemouth ready to pounce.
In Jack Stacey and Adam Smith, the Cherries have two established options at right-back. However, it seems coach Parker is gunning for a younger alternative that can provide the spark going forward. The former Fulham coach had notably secured a deal to sign Manchester United youth prospect Ethan Laird earlier this month.
But in Neco Williams, he could find himself a talented option who has what it takes to compete with Stacey and Smith. The move could be even more beneficial for the player himself, given the prospect of playing in the World Cup later this year, providing Wales do qualify for the tournament.
However, with time running out, it will be interesting to see whether the Cherries can wrap up a deal to sign Neco Williams on loan from Liverpool on deadline day.
