Lyon reportedly have an agreement with Tottenham for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, although the Argentine has yet to accept the offer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have an agreement with Lyon for the loan transfer of midfielder Giovani Lo Celso before the transfer deadline. The Ligue 1 giants are keen to sign the 25-year-old to replace Bruno Guimaraes, who will join Newcastle United imminently.

Tottenham may have faced disappointment in pursuit of their primary targets in the last few days, but they are not changing their plans regarding outgoing players. While there are no signs of new players coming in, there is plenty of news about stars departing the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to embark on new adventures.

Despite Spurs’ shortcomings in the window, Antonio Conte seems open to allowing fringe players to leave the club and trim his squad. Among those tipped to leave are midfielders Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso. These players have failed to establish themselves since making high profile moves from France and Spain respectively.

In Lo Celso’s case, he has never cemented a place under the many managers at Tottenham, and Conte seems clear with his idea of letting the 25-year-old leave this January. There has been interest from Sevilla recently, but it looks like Lyon have managed to agree a deal with Tottenham.

The Ligue 1 giants have proposed a loan deal for the 25-year-old midfielder and will cover his salary. Other details such as the inclusion of an option to buy are still unclear at this time, but both sides have managed to finalise terms.

The only hindrance could be Lo Celso’s approval of the move, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting there is still no acceptance on the 25-year-old midfielder’s part. The tweet also reveals more interest coming from Spain, with Villarreal keen on signing the former Real Betis star, as Unai Emery seeks reinforcements for the second half of the season.

Lyon want Lo Celso to offset the departure of Bruno Guimaraes, who is set to join Newcastle United in a big-money move. The Brazilian’s exit would leave a gaping hole in their midfield unit, with the Ligue 1 giants identifying the Tottenham man to fill the void.

Whether Lo Celso accepts a move to Lyon to temporarily continue his career in Ligue 1 remains unclear. While the option of returning to Spain remains open, there have been no concrete offers coming in from La Liga yet, which will boost Lyon’s hopes before the transfer deadline.
