Transfer News: Manchester City lead race to sign Sinclair Armstrong

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign talented Queens Park Rangers forward Sinclair Armstrong.

According to Goal, European heavyweights and Premier League champions Manchester City are leading the race to land Queens Park Rangers attacking sensation Sinclair Armstrong.

The 18-year-old is currently on loan at Torquay and has scored twice in eight matches in the National League so far. The league is a world away from the Premier League, but the youngster has shown enough promise to suggest that he could make the cut at the top level.

Manchester City are aware of it and have no plans to use the young striker’s talents off the bat. The Citizens are prepared to let the youngster find his feet by sending him out on loan for the next few years. The Irish forward will eventually be considered for first-team action once he is ready.

However, Manchester City are not the only club in the fray to secure the teenager’s services. Fellow Premier League outfits Southampton and Brentford are also interested, while Hoffenheim and Scottish giants Celtic are also keeping tabs on him.

Armstrong caught the attention of the big boys when he made his senior debut for Irish giants Shamrock Rovers at the age of just 17. He joined QPR in the 2020/21 season and was initially impressive for the Hoops’ Under-18 side. The move to Torquay may appear like a step down for a few, but there is a lot to be learned for budding players in the English lower divisions.

A striker by trade, Armstrong will potentially be joining one of the finest footballing institutions in world football at Manchester City. The Premier League champions have the coaching expertise and the facilities needed for the best young talents to thrive. In Pep Guardiola, they also have one of the finest tacticians in world football.

Despite all the resources and facilities potentially at his disposal, the onus will be on Armstrong to rise to the challenge. Still just 18 years old, the Irish attacking sensation has time on his side to build and refine his game.

The last few months have not been kind to Manchester City’s striking department. Last summer, Sergio Aguero left the club while Ferran Torres followed the same route to Barcelona earlier this month. Meanwhile, promising striker Liam Delap continues to struggle with injuries.

While it would be foolish to believe Armstrong is the solution, the 18-year-old could very well prove to be just that given time and patience.
