Federico Valverde is reportedly concerned about his Real Madrid future, with Liverpool and Manchester City among his suitors over a summer move.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Federico Valverde has emerged on the radar of Manchester City over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Real Madrid midfielder is also a target for Liverpool and has concerns about his future at the club.
Federico Valverde joined Real Madrid from Penarol in July 2016 and has since established himself as a crucial member of the first-team squad. While he is yet to become a first-choice midfielder for Los Blancos, the Uruguayan international is widely heralded as a long-term solution in the middle of the park for the club.
To date, the 23-year-old has made 122 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with five goals and seven assists along the way. But his inability to become one of the first-choice options for Real Madrid is making him increasingly disillusioned with his position at the club. Such a situation has captured the attention of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Manchester City could enter the market for a central midfielder in the summer transfer window as club captain Fernandinho is in the twilight of his career. While the Brazilian midfielder could sign another one-year extension, the Premier League champions still need to lay down a succession plan for him.
With Rodri being the first-choice holding midfielder, signing a versatile player like Valverde could be a step in the right direction for Manchester City, who have also recently been linked with Mattias Svanberg. On the other hand, Liverpool’s interest in the Real Madrid star could be stemming from James Milner’s advancing years.
The veteran English midfielder is in the final phase of his career and has started getting phased out by Jurgen Klopp. With Jordan Henderson on the wrong side of 30, Valverde has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool. The Reds have already contacted the Real Madrid midfielder’s entourage to that end, but Manchester City will also be making a lucrative offer in the summer.
The second half of the season will thus be an important period for Valverde to judge whether he has a bright future at Real Madrid. With Liverpool, Manchester City and others lurking in the background, the 23-year-old could have a big decision to make in the summer.
