Leeds United, Newcastle United and Everton are reportedly among the clubs interested in the services of Sampdoria defender Omar Colley.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are eyeing a January swoop for Omar Colley. The 29-year-old Sampdoria defender has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs for a long time, which is why the Whites are also set to face stiff competition from Everton and Newcastle United in the pursuit of the centre-back.

Colley had signed a new deal with Sampdoria earlier in the year. But it appears the player could be on the verge of a potential exit nonetheless, with the Serie A club willing to negotiate if their desired valuation is met. It has put multiple English clubs on red alert, including Leeds United, who are in the market for a new defender.

The Whites have had their fair share of struggles due to injury this season, resulting in a disastrous start to the new season. But they are looking to rebuild in winter, with defensive reinforcements being a priority. Leeds have already been linked with a swoop for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Joe Rodon, although they are joined by Newcastle United in the race to sign the Welshman this winter.

Speaking of Newcastle, the Magpies are looking to completely revamp their defensive unit, as new coach Eddie Howe looks to add more quality to his side. Colley fits the bill well given his experience of featuring in almost 100 Serie A matches and an imposing 1.91m frame that makes him quite an intimidating figure for the opposition attackers.

Although Howe is primarily targeting a reunion with Lloyd Kelly, the former Bournemouth manager could certainly prefer a move for Colley. The 29-year-old Gambian centre-back, after all, has been a great servant for Sampdoria ever since arriving at the Serie A outfit in 2018. He has made over 100 competitive appearances for the club, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the team.

Everton’s interest in Omar Colley, meanwhile, most likely stems from their lack of depth in central defence. Their marquee defender Yerry Mina has been linked with a switch to Napoli lately, whereas Lucas Digne could be on his way out as well, having been linked with a move for Juventus, among many other clubs.

Omar Colley, therefore, has no shortage of suitors should he end up leaving Sampdoria in January. In fact, in addition to the three mentioned Premier League outfit, the Gambian is also a target for the newly-promoted Watford. So it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 29-year-old next month.
