Watford have emerged as a potential destination for Arsenal outcast Sead Kolasinac, with Claudio Ranieri eyeing a January deal.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Watford have set their sights on Sead Kolasinac. The newly-promoted Premier League outfit are currently searching for defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, with Claudio Ranieri particularly keen on the services of the Arsenal star.

Kolasinac is likely to be allowed to leave Arsenal in Janaury, as his current contract at Emirates expires at the end of the season. The left-back hasn’t had a bright spell with the Gunners, never really managing to live up to expectations since his move from Schalke in 2017.

The defender even returned to his former club Schalke at the start of this year on a short-term loan deal. He was tasked with the responsibility of helping the German giants stave off relegation. But the 28-year-old struggled to perform in the Bundesliga as well, leading to Schalke’s shock relegation from the top-flight.

Kolasinac returned to Emirates in the summer, even starting the season with appearances against Manchester City and Leeds United (EFL Cup). But the Bosnian has since fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta, managing only 90 minutes of league football and falling behind Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares in the pecking order.

However, the 28-year-old’s struggles haven’t deterred Watford, who are in the market for defensive reinforcements that can help their push for survival in the Premier League.

With over 100 appearances for each Arsenal and Schalke, Kolasinac fits the bill due to his experience at the highest level of football. In addition, the Bosnian international offers versatility to the table, as he can operate as a left-back and a centre-back. It should help Ranieri find cover for Adam Masina and Danny Rose.

Kolasinac’s potential departure could be a major boost for Arsenal as they look to clear up their defensive unit. In addition to the former Schalke captain, Mikel Arteta is also keen on offloading Calum Chambers, who is a target for Everton.

Apart from Kolasinac, Watford have been linked with a move for Bournemouth star Steve Cook. Ranieri is also eyeing a potential reunion with Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley, as the former Leicester City managers look to reshape the Watford side in the upcoming January transfer window.
