Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy Weverton Silva de Andrade from Cruzeiro.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Weverton Silva de Andrade is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in a future transfer window. Juni Calafat has submitted glowing reports on the 18-year-old defensive prodigy, currently at Cruzeiro.
Weverton Silva de Andrade spent most of his formative years with Cruzeiro before graduating to their first-team squad earlier this year. Since then, the youngster has begun carving out a spot for himself in the Brazilian club’s senior side, having made 13 appearances across all competitions thus far.
Primarily a centre-back, the 18-year-old can also reprise the role of a defensive midfielder equally adeptly. And the youngster’s exploits have been noticed by one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Juni Calafat, the man behind Real Madrid’s forays into South America, submitting a glowing report on the teenage defensive prodigy.
The Spanish giants have actively sought the most talented prospects in South America for years, with this outlook fetching them first-team regulars like Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo Goes. Of late, several other South American prospects, like Matias Arezo, have been linked with Real Madrid, with Weverton now emerging on their radar.
If signed, Weverton will likely go through the rigours of playing for Real Madrid Castilla before eventually becoming a first-team regular, just like compatriots Vinicius and Rodrygo did before him. However, with Real Madrid hard in search of a centre-back, the 18-year-old could well be fast-tracked to the senior side quickly if he shows enough promise.
The Merengues would fancy their chances of snapping up the Brazilian prodigy, considering that club legend Ronaldo recently bought a controlling stake in Cruzeiro. The Tricolor Flu Fluzao could also enter negotiations with Real Madrid over a move for Marcelo, who is primed to return to Brazil next summer once his contract runs out.
As for Weverton, the 18-year-old defensive prodigy is believed to have the highest ceiling at Cruzeiro, and we could soon see Real Madrid launching the offensive for him. It remains to be seen if the Brazilian under-18 international becomes the latest South American prospect to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.
