Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made contact with the representatives of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger over a transfer in the summer window.
According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have taken the first step in their pursuit of Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger and have established contact with the German’s entourage to explore the possibility of a summer transfer.
Rudiger has a little over six months left on his current contract with Chelsea. The 28-year-old has grown into a pivotal part of the team under Thomas Tuchel, and the Blues intend to keep hold of him beyond the current season. However, talks over a new deal have not progressed as per plans, leading to intense speculations over his future.
Recent reports have indicated that Rudiger is furious with Chelsea over their latest contract offer and has decided to leave the club at the end of the ongoing campaign. Numerous elite clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move for the German international.
It has been claimed that the former AS Roma star has already agreed terms with Real Madrid, while PSG are also believed to be in contact with his brother and agent, Sahr Senesie. Now, Tottenham are also ready to step up their efforts to try and land Rudiger on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.
The Lilywhites are keen on signing at least one defender in January but want to further add to their centre-back options in the summer as well. Considering that the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier have been inconsistent and Joe Rodon does not have a future at the club, adding a defender of Rudiger’s ilk would be a massive boost.
The German international would add a lot of experience, leadership and winning mentality to this Tottenham team. Furthermore, he is someone that manager Antonio Conte knows well, considering the Italian tactician who signed Rudiger at Chelsea back in 2017.
In order to make the transfer happen, Tottenham director Fabio Paratici has established contact with Rudiger’s camp and is planning to push them to reach an agreement as early as January. The report further adds that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is willing to hand the Chelsea star a bumper contract to convince him to move to the north London outfit.
With the race to sign Rudiger heating up with each passing day, it remains to be seen if Tottenham are successful in their endeavours to land him or end up losing the ex-Roma star to a different club.
