Barcelona will reportedly be in a transfer battle with Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are set to go head to head in pursuit of Marcus Rashford. The English international is exploring the possibility of leaving Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford has been with Manchester United practically throughout the time he has been kicking a ball. And after being fast-tracked into the first-team setup midway through 2015/16 amid an injury crisis, the 24-year-old has not looked back. Over the last five and a half years, the player has been a key figure for Manchester United, carving out a place for himself in the senior squad.
However, 2021/22 has been a season to forget for Rashford due to a late start forced by shoulder surgery, following which he has had to share game-time. As a result, the Englishman has managed just 655 minutes of action thus far, with three goals and one assist in 12 appearances. And it looks like his frustrations are boiling over, with reports claiming that he is considering leaving Manchester United.
Such a situation has piqued the interest of Barcelona. The Catalan giants desperately need an attacking reinforcement, with their urgency rising further following Sergio Aguero’s decision to call time on his career due to a heart ailment.
With Memphis Depay blowing hot and cold following a strong start to the season and facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, it behoves Barcelona to sign a versatile forward like Rashford. However, the Blaugrana could face stiff competition from PSG soon in pursuit of the Manchester United attacker.
The interest from PSG is understandable, considering Kylian Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid as a free agent unless they can convince him to sign a new contract in the next six months. With former Manchester United forward Angel Di Maria in the twilight of his career, Rashford has emerged as a viable target.
However, PSG will need to step up their efforts to swoop Rashford away from Manchester United, as recent reports have claimed that the English international is open to joining Barcelona. But with Barcelona’s finances being in dire straits, PSG could have a window of opportunity in pursuit of the 24-year-old. It will be interesting to see if Rashford does leave Manchester United or joins one of the two European heavyweights instead.
