Chelsea are set to rival West Ham United and Liverpool in the race to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer.

According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea have emerged as the latest club to be linked with a move for Gleison Bremer. The reigning European champions had scouted the Torino defender last week and were impressed with what he had to offer. As such, he has now become the latest player in the club’s long list of defensive targets in the summer.

Chelsea’s interest in Gleison stems from the club’s fear over a potential mass exodus in the defensive department next summer. The Blues are braced to lose not only one but four defenders, including Antonio Rudiger, who has even reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid.

In addition to the German, Thiago Silva is also in the final year of his contract along with Andreas Christensen, who has emerged as a subject of interest for Juventus, among many others. Chelsea may have more luck keeping hold of Cesar Azpilicueta, but he, too, has been a target for Barcelona.

It has compelled Chelsea to look for options in the transfer market. And while Thomas Tuchel is eyeing star players like Marquinhos, someone like Bremer could be an excellent cost-effective alternative, as the player has enjoyed immense success since joining Torino in 2018.

In just three and a half years at the club, the 24-year-old Brazilian has already notched up almost 100 competitive appearances, establishing himself as a real defensive leader in the team. The centre-back has also made a solid impression with his dogged defensive nature, making him one of the club’s best performers over the past few years.

Chelsea are likely targeting Bremer to shore up the numbers in their defensive unit, as someone who can challenge the first-choice options. But their newfound interest in the Brazilian might not bode well for the slew of other Premier League rivals, including West Ham, who were eyeing a January swoop for the defender.

Even Liverpool have been linked with a move for Bremer for a long-time, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Torino defender as he looks to take the next step in his career.
