Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, valued at around €60 million by Real Madrid.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Chelsea have joined the race to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Blues will need to table a bid worth €60 million to snap up the 29-year-old midfielder, with Real Madrid ready to discuss a move if their valuation is met.
Casemiro is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game, having gone from strength to strength during his stint with Real Madrid. While the Brazilian took some time to get going at the Santiago Bernabeu, he has not looked back since making his breakthrough in the 2015/16 season.
To date, the 29-year-old has made 307 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with 30 goals and 27 assists in the process. However, the Spanish giants are considering the prospect of cashing in on the player in the wake of poor performances in the first half of the ongoing campaign. Such a situation has alerted Chelsea.
The interest from Chelsea is understandable despite the presence of stalwarts like N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, in addition to the resurgence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek. That is because the Blues are unlikely to sign Saul Niguez permanently, while Ross Barkley is expected to be sold at the earliest opportunity.
In addition, Kante has been beset by several fitness issues in the past year, while Jorginho has flirted with the prospect of returning to Italy now and then. Chelsea could do with a new holding midfielder in such a scenario, especially with Conor Gallagher only likely to be utilised as a box-to-box midfielder if he is not sent out on loan again.
However, Chelsea will need to shell out €60 million to sign Casemiro, an amount the Blues are ready to pay to prise him away from Real Madrid. At the same time, though, the west Londoners face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain, with reports claiming that the Brazilian is in talks with the French giants.
But Casemiro’s representatives have also initiated discussions with Chelsea, meaning the Premier League heavyweights stand a good chance of snapping him up. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are eyeing Wilfred Ndidi as a possible replacement for Casemiro, which suggests a €60 million move to Chelsea could be on the cards. However, PSG might have something to say about such a development.
