Achraf Hakimi is reportedly keen on returning to Real Madrid, with the Merengues closely monitoring the situation of the 23-year-old PSG right-back.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Achraf Hakimi is eager to return to Real Madrid in next summer’s transfer window. The 23-year-old Moroccan defender is not content at Paris Saint-Germain, with the Spanish giants tracking his situation at the Ligue 1 club.
Achraf Hakimi joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2021 following a successful one-year stint with Inter Milan. However, the move to PSG has not panned out as envisioned for the youngster, who is yet to hit his stride at Parc des Princes.
While the 23-year-old has featured regularly, making 22 appearances across all competitions, playing in a back four has affected his output. With his defensive shortcomings being exposed, Hakimi has struggled to make a difference consistently in the final third. This situation has left him disillusioned at PSG, with former club Real Madrid keeping tabs on him.
Hakimi previously spent over a decade with Real Madrid after joining the club’s youth setup in 2006. However, he could never make his mark at the Santiago Bernabeu, as Dani Carvajal was firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.
That did not deter him from rising in stature in Europe, as he was top-notch during a two-year loan spell with Borussia Dortmund. And Hakimi then went from strength to strength after joining Inter Milan on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid last year.
Now, though, Hakimi is ready to return to Real Madrid as he wants to put an end to his struggles at PSG. And he is looking to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu along with Kylian Mbappe, a priority target for Los Blancos for next summer’s transfer window.
The Spanish giants have been reported to be in the market for a right-back, with Gonzalo Montiel among the players heavily linked with them lately. However, Hakimi could fit the mould at Real Madrid, with the Merengues keeping a close watch on his situation at PSG.
According to recent reports, it has also been suggested that Real Madrid could cash in on Carvajal, which will open up the possibility for Hakimi to become the first-choice right-back. For now, though, Los Blancos are only tracking the 23-year-old’s situation at PSG and it remains to be if he leaves the Ligue 1 club after just one year.
