Transfer News: Barcelona ready to offer part-exchange deal to sign Ferran Torres

Barcelona are reportedly willing to table an offer to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City in a part-exchange deal.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are stepping up their efforts to secure the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish international is ready to join the Catalan giants, who are prepared to propose a part-exchange deal to Manchester City to land him.

Ferran Torres joined Manchester City from Valencia in August 2020 and has since made gradual progress in his fledgling career. The 21-year-old experienced initial teething problems at the Etihad before settling down nicely, especially when Pep Guardiola utilised him as a striker.

To date, Torres has made 43 appearances for Manchester City, chipping in with 16 goals and four assists in the process. Now a regular for club and country, the Spanish international’s progress has been noticed by several clubs across Europe, with Barcelona being one of his prospective suitors.

Recent reports have even indicated that Torres has reached an agreement to join Barcelona, with the transfer fee the only major detail left to be sorted. The asking price could be a major stumbling block for Barcelona, as the Premier League champions are set to demand a premium for their prized asset.

According to recent reports, the Citizens have slapped a €70 million price tag on Torres, whose future at the club looks bleak. This has been corroborated by Mundo Deportivo, who claim that Manchester City’s asking price will be between €70 million and €80 million. Meanwhile, the Spanish international is a viable target for the Catalan giants, who need a versatile attacker amid their struggles in the final third this season.

Barcelona cannot afford to pay such a sum in their current financial condition, which is why a part-exchange deal is set to be proposed. Manchester City will have up to seven players to choose from in such a package, with Barcelona ready to offer one of Sergino Dest, Sergi Roberto, Clement Lenglet, Oscar Mingueza, Philippe Coutinho, Neto and Samuel Umtiti.

What remains to be seen is if the English giants are open to offloading Torres in a part-exchange deal and which player they zero in on to bring in as part of such a package. An intriguing next few weeks beckon as far, with Barcelona keen on signing the Spanish international from Manchester City.
