Liverpool are reportedly willing to let Neco Williams leave in the winter window if clubs cough up £10 million for the backup right-back.
According to The Sunday Mirror (h/t Sports Illustrated), Liverpool are prepared to let Neco Williams leave the club in January if interested suitors pay their asking price. The right-back, who is reportedly unhappy at the club, is valued at £10 million, with several clubs possibly keen.
Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas has seen his stock rise this season after playing several games as Andy Robertson found himself in and out of the treatment room. The Greek full-back has been impressive as Jurgen Klopp afforded him the chances he deserved. Since signing for the club in 2020, he has waited and taken his opportunity.
While Tsimikas remains content with life at Anfield, the same cannot be said about Neco Williams, who is the current backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back is frustrated with life at the club due to a lack of playing time and no future changes in sight.
Unlike Tsimikas on the other flank, Klopp has not used Williams when Alexander-Arnold was absent. Instead, he preferred to use James Milner or Joe Gomez as cover, which has confined the youngster to just four appearances in all competitions this term.
In whatever little time Williams has been afforded, he has looked impressive, although it will be an impossible task to dislodge Alexander-Arnold from his position. Hence the 20-year-old right-back wishes to leave the side in the January window to play regularly and further his career elsewhere.
Liverpool are not known to let their fringe stars leave on the cheap. Hence the Merseysiders are set to demand £10 million from suitors who wish to sign Williams. The full-back has a fair bit of experience after featuring 29 times for the senior side. In that regard, £10 million could be a reasonable fee given that he is still just 20 years old and has shown a lot of potential.
Burnley were keen to sign him in the summer, but Liverpool rejected the idea of selling him. However, they are now prepared to move him on if the right offer comes in. Klopp is eager to develop Conor Bradley and promote him to becoming the No.2 right-back at the club if Williams departs.
A move away from Liverpool could be good for Williams, as he can join a club where he will be able to play regularly week in week out. Alternatively, the 20-year-old might want to bide his time at Anfield, considering Joe Gomez is being linked with a loan exit in January, which could promise him more minutes as cover for Alexander-Arnold. Although if clubs pay up the asking price, Liverpool might be happy to sanction an exit.
