Transfer News: Manchester City keen on signing Dani Olmo

Manchester City are keen on bringing Dani Olmo, who is liked by Pep Guardiola although they face competition from plenty of clubs.

According to Calciomercato, Manchester City have entered the race for Dani Olmo as manager Pep Guardiola likes the Spanish star. RB Leipzig might be open to a sale if their valuations are met by the Premier League champions.

Dani Olmo has been consistent in his development at RB Leipzig, with the Spaniard impressing regularly at the highest level in Germany. The Spaniard has attracted the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the continent, including his former side Barcelona and a few Premier League giants.

Olmo has had a disruptive start to the ongoing season, particularly after excursions in the summer with Spain at the Euros. He is yet to hit his peak fitness levels this term. Despite only playing for a total of 122 minutes of league football this term, and without a goal or assist to his name, Olmo has plenty of credit in the bank to keep teams interested.

Manchester City are reportedly plotting a move for the Spaniard next summer. Pep Guardiola is always looking at options to strengthen his roster and an exceptionally creative player like Olmo has seemingly caught his eye. While there is no shortage of talent and quality in the squad at the Etihad, the manager might have to bring in new faces to start planning for the next cycle, slowly replacing some of the ageing stars.

The Catalan boss faces competition for Olmo with neighbours Manchester United one of the sides interested in his services. The Red Devils could rival Manchester City for the Spaniard’s signing, as the club could do with another creative presence in the squad despite having Bruno Fernandes, who has gone off the boil a bit this season.

However, Olmo seemingly has his sights on a return to Spain. Boyhood club Barcelona were very keen on their former player, although their financial conditions might force the Catalans to end their interest prematurely.

The pathway might open up for Manchester City as the lure of playing under Guardiola would be difficult to ignore for any top-class player, let alone Olmo. As things stand, the 23-year-old Spaniard has a contract until 2024, which means Leipzig are set to demand a sizeable fee for their star performer, which Manchester City should be able to pay given their deep pockets.
