Transfer News: Jordi Alba open to PSG switch

Jordi Alba is reportedly open to the prospect of joining Paris Saint-Germain, who will look to prise him away from Barcelona.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Jordi Alba has emerged on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain over a move in a future transfer window. Lionel Messi is keen on a reunion with his former Barcelona teammate, with PSG ready to launch the offensive for him.

Jordi Alba is currently in his second stint with Barcelona. The 32-year-old initially spent most of his formative years at the Blaugrana’s famed academy La Masia before making his way to Cornella. And in June 2012, he agreed on a deal to return to Barcelona in the wake of an impressive UEFA Euro 2012 campaign with Spain.

To date, Alba has made 398 appearances for Barcelona, chipping in with 22 goals and 86 assists in the process. At 32, the Spanish international remains a key figure for club and country, but he could be swooped away from Camp Nou soon, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in him.

At PSG, Lionel Messi is keen on reuniting with Alba, with the former Barcelona captain aware of his precarious situation at Camp Nou. And the French giants are ready to launch the offensive for the full-back, having been left disappointed by the performances of Nuno Mendes.

The report claims that PSG have no intention to sign the Portuguese defender permanently. And with Juan Bernat struggling to make an impression since returning from a long-term injury, Les Parisiens are determined to set things right by bringing in a quality left-back.

To that end, Alba is viewed as a viable target for PSG, looking to reunite the 32-year-old with Messi at Parc des Princes. However, PSG will need to be clinical in their move for the Barcelona defender, who has recently been linked with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, PSG have recently been linked with another Barcelona defender in Diego Almeida, but the 17-year-old is open to staying put at the club. As for their pursuit of Alba, it remains to be seen if PSG can reunite the Spanish international with Messi in the French capital or if he stays put at Camp Nou. For their part, Barcelona will not be opposed to the idea of selling Alba, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
