Leeds United are poised to make a €5 million bid for Nantes midfielder Andrei Girotto in the January transfer window.

According to the French news outlet, Hommedumatch, Leeds United are set to re-enter the market for Andrei Girotto in the upcoming January transfer window. The Premier League outfit were linked with a move for the Nantes midfielder in the summer, but a move could not materialise.

Leeds, though, have once again set their sights on Girotto and are expected to come up with a €5 million offer in January. They are hoping to sign the player in a cut-price deal, with Marcelo Bielsa keen on shoring up his options in the middle of the park.

Formerly of Palmeiras, Girotto was a well-travelled footballer in Brazil, playing for no less than six different clubs in his homeland before moving to Europe in 2017. He joined Nantes for just €2.3 million, which would later become an absolute bargain for the French outfit.

During his four and a half years at the club, the Brazilian has made 130 competitive appearances. His contributions in the middle of the park have been critical in helping Les Canaris retain their status in the French top flight, with the player becoming more important than ever with each passing season.

However, Girotto’s spell at Nantes might not last long, with Leeds United prepared to snap him up in the upcoming January transfer window. Although the player’s current contract expires in 2024, the Whites sense an ideal opportunity to sign him for a cut-price and strengthen a midfield unit that has lacked depth this season.

Marcelo Bielsa does indeed lack the services of a proper alternative for Kalvin Phillips, who is also facing an uncertain future at the club, with Manchester United reportedly interested. Girotto, with his ability to operate not only in holding midfield but also in central defence, could prove to be a major asset for the team.

The Nantes midfielder is unlikely to cost a fortune either, potentially making him a smart investment for a club that requires reinforcements in January.

Girotto is not the only midfielder to be linked with a move to Elland Road either. It appears Leeds United are hot on the heels of Chelsea star Ross Barkley while Nahitan Nandez is also being considered as a potential reinforcement option in the winter transfer window.
