Transfer News: Chelsea ready to offer €60 million for Eder Militao

Chelsea are reportedly willing to fork out a sum of €60 million in order to secure the signing of Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

According to a report from El Nacional, Chelsea are willing to go big in their pursuit of Real Madrid mainstay Eder Militao by paying a transfer fee of €60 million to sign him from the Spanish capital outfit.

Militao joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 from Portuguese giants FC Porto in a deal worth €50 million. The Brazilian endured a torrid debut season in which he looked like a liability each time he took the field. However, since then, he has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the backline since last season.

The 23-year-old has continued to perform admirably in the new campaign, forging a solid partnership with new signing David Alaba to help Real Madrid to a strong start to life under Carlo Ancelotti. Militao has not missed even a single game for Los Blancos across all competitions this season, and his steady rise in Spain has caught the attention of Chelsea.

The Blues could be preparing for a major defensive overhaul in the summer as Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, and Antonio Rudiger are all out of contract at the end of the season. While there is hope that Christensen and Azpilicueta will pen new deals, the same cannot be said about Rudiger, who is on the radars of several top clubs, including Real Madrid.

As a result, Thomas Tuchel is preparing for the eventuality that the German international departs Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, with Militao emerging as a potential candidate to replace the former AS Roma star.

To that end, Chelsea are now reportedly willing to shell out a massive sum of €60 million to clinch the 23-year-old’s signing from Real Madrid. The report also adds that the reigning champions of Europe are prepared to offer the centre-back a bumper contract worth more than what he currently earns at the Santiago Bernabeu to lure him to west London.

Militao, for his part, is said to be open to an exit from Real Madrid. It is claimed that the Brazilian international is unhappy with the club’s pursuit of Jules Kounde as signing the Frenchman would eat into his game-time. At the same time, he also feels let down by the Merengues for not offering him a new and improved contract in reflection of his performances over the past year or so.

This situation has led to an interest in him from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich as well, apart from Chelsea. What now remains to be seen is whether the Blues actually decide to firm up their interest in Militao and if Real Madrid are willing to play ball should an offer be forthcoming.
