Mason Mount is set to return to the lineup while Timo Werner is also in contention to feature when Chelsea take on Leicester City in the Premier League.
Chelsea will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways and solidify their position at the top of the Premier League table when they face off against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Heading into the game, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been handed a double injury boost. Timo Werner is back in contention after returning to training this week, while Mason Mount is also available after undergoing dental surgery. However, both Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic still remain sidelined.
Speaking of the injuries in his presser, Tuchel said, “I can tell you Mateo and Romelu are out for the game in Leicester. Romelu is very close to team training. Hopefully, he will join the squad on Sunday. Let’s see how this works out. He is pushing hard and trying to come back as soon as possible. We will try on Sunday. Mateo will take more days until he is ready to join team training. He will miss some more matches.”
“Timo is in team training since yesterday. Let’s see. We have another training. Then we will decide if it makes sense if he’s maybe in the squad or on the bench. We can only decide after his second training later.”
Tuchel could make one or two tweaks to the side that played out a 1-1 draw against Burnley last time out. No alteration is expected in goal, however, with Edouard Mendy being the undisputed starter. Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger are also likely to hold on to their spots in the lineup, but captain Cesar Azpilicueta could get a look-in against Leicester at the expense of Andreas Christensen.
Reece James, who has been in top form of late, is a certainty to continue as the right wing-back while the same can be said of his England teammate Ben Chilwell on the opposite side. Marcos Alonso will once again have to suffice with a spot on the bench for Chelsea.
With Kovacic ruled out, the central midfield pairing of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho picks itself. However, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is pushing for a start having impressed at every opportunity that has come his way in recent games. Meanwhile, the returning Mount should walk back into the starting XI against Leicester, slotting as one of the two attacking midfielders, at the expense of Ross Barkley.
That would mean Callum Hudson-Odoi keeps his place in the attacking unit, which Kai Havertz will spearhead. Werner, if deemed ready enough, will be an option from the bench at the most at the King Power Stadium.
Chelsea Predicted XI: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger, James, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Havertz
