Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been handed the opportunity to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso, who will be a free agent in the summer.

According to a report from German publication Kicker, Tottenham Hotspur have been provided with a chance to secure the services of Bayern Munich and France midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

The 27-year-old arrived at Bayern Munich in the summer of 2017 after enjoying a fine run at boyhood club Olympique Lyon. However, his time in Bavaria has been plagued with recurring injury issues, limiting him to just 104 appearances across all competitions in over four years with the German champions.

With Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich firmly ahead of him in the pecking order of things at the Allianz Arena, Tolisso could soon be making his way out of the club, with his current contract set to run out at the end of the ongoing campaign. While Bayern are still evaluating whether to hand him an extension or not, the midfielder is being offered around to clubs in Europe.

As per the report, Tottenham are among the clubs that have been presented with an opportunity to sign up Tolisso on a free transfer in the summer of 2022. The Lilywhites are set to embark on a new journey under newly-appointed manager Antonio Conte. While the Italian is currently focusing on bolstering the backline, Spurs’ midfield department could also do with some tinkering.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp have been regulars in the team this term but do not offer much in the way of offensive contributions. With Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele struggling to make the impact expected of them and question marks lingering over the future of Dele Alli, the north London outfit could use a midfielder who can make things tick while on the ball.

Tolisso, to that end, can be a handy signing for Tottenham, given his range of distribution and ability to engineer high-quality chances for his teammates from the centre of the park. While his injury record does raise alarms, the fact that he would be arriving on a free transfer should make it worth it for the Lilywhites to take a risk on the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.

At 27, Tolisso is in his peak years. Should he stay fit for prolonged periods, the former Olympique Lyon ace has the quality to make a huge difference for Tottenham Hotspur. They may, however, have to battle Conte’s former employers, Inter Milan, for his signing. The Nerazzurri have also been offered the midfielder and could sign him up as a replacement for Aston Villa target Matias Vecino.

As things stand, Tolisso’s time at Bayern Munich looks to be coming to an end. What remains to be seen is whether Tottenham decide to take up the opportunity to land the World Cup winner or look elsewhere to strengthen their midfield department.

Are we looking for a replacement for Darren Anderton?
Only sign him if he is cheap and on a low wage. Or as a loan to buy.
